Grapefruit Rocks Overview
Hike & Climb
50 miles north of Fairbanks, roadside to the infamous "haul road" that goes to Prudhoe Bay, lies the most popular local rock climbing crag: Grapefruit Rocks. From the parking lot, pack climbing gear, lunch, and water in your day pack to tackle the first obstacle: a steep mile hike. At the top, capture stunning views of the valley below and pristine limestone facades around.
Following the hike, certified guides will set up several top-rope anchors and instruct proper use of climbing equipment such as a harness and belay device. Participants will take turns belaying and climbing for each other under the guide's supervision.
Note: Although participants learn some rock climbing basics, this is an experiential trip.
